Data Protection for Choir Leaders (GDPR)
Many of us Choir Leaders have an email list to communicate with our members and people who have attended our workshops etc. We are also on other people's lists, of course. There is new legislation coming into force in May 2018 (the 25th May to be exact), called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). It will affect us as individuals and as choir leaders. In this article, I will outline my understanding of the GDPR's effects on us as choir leaders and some suggestions as to action we need to t…
Facebook Groups - useful for Choir Leaders?
Facebook Groups are more of a community than a page. They are set up for small group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. They are ideal for Choir Leaders to share information specifically with your singers, and for them to share information between themselves. You can have one Facebook Group for each choir or have one group for all your choirs.
Worried about more admin?
You do not have to run your Group(s) yourself. You can have one or more membe…
What are Facebook Pages for?
People can like and follow your page and get updates from your page in their News Feed. You can post information that your followers will see in their timeline, which they can like (and their friends might see that they’ve liked). Your followers can share your post with their friends too so more peopl…
Facebook Newsfeed
Remember, you can choose to "unfollow" a FB friend, so you don't see what they had for lunch, but you continue to be their "friend"
Remember, you must have a personal profile/account in order to create pages and/or groups.
If you'd like to know more, you might be interested in my free g…
Timeline = what you share
- Statuses - how you are feeling, or where you are.
- Posts - text e.g. information about your choir’s next gig;
- Photos - e.g. your choir’s recent performance, your cat looking cute, what you had for dinner;
- Videos - e.g. your choir singing, what your cat was doing to look cute, how you cooked your dinner;
- Links - web pages people might be interested in.
Facebook Friends and Followers
Facebook Friends
Facebook was designed to connect people. Those connections are Friends. You can have up to 5,000 Facebook friends and you can segment them so that you can control what each group sees on your Timeline. Segmenting means putting them into collections, for example “family”, “personal friends”, “business friends”, “Wednesday Choir” etc. Creating these segments allow you to share certain info only with your selected segment(s) or to exclude selected segments. For example, you can shar…Facebook Personal Profile
The minimum information that Facebook requires is:
• your name,
• an email address or mobile phone number,
• a secure password,
• your date of birth (you must be over 15) and
• your gender.
If you are concerned about privacy, once your personal profile is created you do not have to use it. You can hide the information you used to create the account, except for your name.
You must have a…
Facebook: A Tool To Reach More Singers
Facebook is now one of the most popular websites today. With over 62 million active members from all over the world and still growing. And, over the years, Mark Zuckerberg and his many teams at Facebook have added many features that make it a good tool for sharing information with your friends and family.
They have also added features to help people with their busine…
Summer Singing 2018 with Laura Bradshaw and Rebecca Ballard
If you miss your weekly singing over the Summer do come and join Laura Bradshaw and Rebecca Ballard on Thursday evenings. We will primarily be learning the songs for Sing for Water London, but we'll be doing other things too. Some of us are planning to go to the event on Sunday, 15th September, but most of us will just be learning the songs. Sing for Water London inspired Sing for Water Cardiff and there are songs in common, so chances are that some of the songs we learn this Summer will be sung…
My First Workshop - Part 1a
It's a really good question. If you know me personally, you know that I love singing and I love singing in choirs and I recently started leading choirs myself. I've "subbed" for the leader of the community choir that I sing with once a week, which is always great fun. With her cajoling, I did a choir leader course with the lovely Candy Verney, joined the Natural Voice Network, led busking sessions an…
