Facebook Groups - useful for Choir Leaders?

They are set up for small group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. They are ideal for Choir Leaders to share information specifically with your singers, and for them to share information between themselves. What are Facebook Pages for?

FceBook Page as a laptop and as a phoneFacebook pages are designed to be the official profiles for entities, such as celebrities, brands or businesses and so are visible to everyone on the internet. There is no charge to have an FB Page.

People can like and follow your page and get updates from your page in their News Feed. You can post information that your followers will see in their timeline, which they can like (and their friends might see that they’ve liked). Facebook Newsfeed

Facebook Newsfeed on a desktop and on mobileFacebook puts things in your News Feed that it thinks you are interested in. This can include status updates, photos, videos, links, app activity and likes from friends, pages and groups that you follow on Facebook.

Remember, you can choose to "unfollow" a FB friend, so you don't see what they had for lunch, but you continue to be their "friend"

Timeline = what you share

Facebook Timeline exampleWhat your share on your timeline is generally called a post. Specifically, you share:
  • Statuses - how you are feeling, or where you are.
  • Posts - text e.g. information about your choir’s next gig;
  • Photos - e.g. your choir’s recent performance, your cat looking cute, what you had for dinner;
  • Videos - e.g. your choir singing, what your cat was doing to look cute, how you cooked your dinner;

You can have up to 5,000 Facebook friends and you can segment them so that you can control what each group sees on your Timeline. Facebook profile imageTo use Facebook, you create an account with information about you. That information is known as your personal profile.

The minimum information that Facebook requires is:

• your name,

• an email address or mobile phone number,

• a secure password,

• your date of birth (you must be over 15) and

• your gender.
